Biography

 

Nicola Zammit is a British photographer currently based in South East Asia.  She studied Editorial Photography at Brighton University and since graduating in 2002, has worked on an international scale, exhibiting in places such as Malaysia, Egypt, Palestine, Argentina and Italy among others.

 A fertile imagination and a passion for photography are at the heart of her practice placing an emphasis on ideas. She believes that now the digital age has overrun us and most people within the developed world own a camera, that it is what you do with photography that is important.

 Previous projects include;

 Your Family, for which she was recently made one of the winners of the Magenta Foundation- Emerging Photographers 2006.

 The Green Line, which looks at the city of Beirut.

 Journey to an Arcadian Garden, which looks at the Egyptian deserts.

 Colloquial, an insight into the city of Cairo.

 Self-Portrait: a message of Peace, which toured as part of a group exhibition and is now housed at the Casoria Contemporary Art Museum as part of their permanent collection.

 Restless Ghosts, which looks at abandoned places.

 Current projects include:

 Voice, which concerns the crisis in the Middle East.

 Raw, a work in progress an insight into Africa.

 Nicola works tirelessly to promote the use of photography in a creative and meaningful manner, she initiated a photography course at the Modern English School, Cairo, for A level age students, where the course flourished and she had students continue with their studies to degree level.

 She now gives talks and workshops in her place of residence Kuala Lumpur and tries to bring an insight of photography to the old and young alike.
